Our arrival in Suva

This is the plane we flew into Suva on. A Bishop from the Nadi area was on the same plane with us. He was headed to the Temple in Suva.

We arrived and were greeted by the Gerkins. They gave us some shell leis. All our luggage is on the cart in front of us.

Driving with Elder and Sister Gerkin around town and to the mission home. Notice we are driving on the wrong side of the road!! The Gerkins kept us very busy as it was their job to keep us awake all day!

This is the view of the Suva temple from the mission home. Beautiful!

This is a group of young ladies from the school we met after Church in Suva. The ladies all wear beautiful bright colored/patterned dresses.

Our first Sunday in Suva. We attended the Suva Church School Ward. Beautiful meeting. Most of the men wear a Sulu to church. I think all the Elders in the mission wear them everyday. This was our 5th day on the island of Viti Levu in Suva.

We went looking for Sulus for Dan and Elder Bryan. This mannequin was in one of the shops where they sell uniforms for school children. We did find a Sulu for Dan! Only a Herff Jones employee can appreciate the grad gown! Love his hair! Ha

Birthday dinner for Elder Gerken. Sister Gerken cooked a roast with potatoes and carrots and topped it off with a beautiful red velvet bundt cake. It was so good! She is an excellent cook and gave me some pointers for cooking, and shopping in Fiji! Different than the US for sure! The Bryan’s are also with us.

Above photos are from the flat we stayed in for a week while in Suva. Sister Hinkson is in one of the photos in front of the flat. She is the mission nurse and stays in a connected flat right behind ours. I guess the upstairs is a school. There was no school happening while we were there. The flat was very nice and clean!

Kari's meal at Grace Kitchen in Suva. We were eating lunch with the Bryans a couple who arrived at the mission the day after us. They will be teaching at the School for a year.  They are from Iona. Sister Bryan and I have known each other for many years through our work in education

This was a cemetery we passed on a drive in Suva. They are interesting.

This is the car wash in Suva. It is ran by the deaf school. Notice that they are washing with a power washer under a tin roof! We sat across the entryway and sweated and got bit by mosquitoes! Not a US car wash by any stretch of the immigration, but they did a good job getting it clean!
